In Part II we learn that even though Umaru is physically held as a trafficking victim and later threatened with prison, his spirit will not allow him to submit. He fights back through hunger strikes, protests, and is even willing to lay down his life to save another. Throughout it all, he couldn't understand how in the name of religion his child enslavement began. During his lifetime Umaru witnessed the trafficking of hundreds of minors. He learns that he is the chosen one. He lives to tell the story, forgive his captors, and to help others as a civil rights investigator.
